Let’s Try-It Horse Camp - Ages 3 and up - $20

Spend a day out on the farm, meeting horses, miniature donkeys, cows, chickens and a miniature pig. Learn about the daily chores involved and what these animals do for our community and us. Each participant will have the opportunity to groom a horse and learn about different tack used in our lesson program. Learn what horses tell us by their body language, practice proper leading habits and understand proper riding attire. Additionally, you will become familiar with important safety rules for working around horses. Your time spent at our farm will be memorable and enjoyable. This is a great opportunity for hands on experiences and an introduction to our program.

* This camp provides information needed for the Girl Scouts Commonwealth Council “Horse Are Fun” Try-It badge.

Horse Fan Camp - Ages 3 and up - $25

Spend a day out on the farm, meeting horses, miniature donkeys, cows, chickens and a miniature pig. Learn about the daily chores involved and what these animals do for our community and us. Each participant will have the opportunity to groom, saddle and have a short lead line lesson. Participants will become familiar with proper riding attire, tack, horse anatomy, careers with horse and horse care. This is a fun filled camp with lots of hands-on experiences.

Horse Rider Camp - Ages 6 and up $50

Daily hands-on activities include: leading and haltering, safe horse-handling techniques, cleaning stalls and paddocks, grooming and feeding the horses, cleaning tack, as well as learning to ride safely and responsibly. Bring home memories of riding a favorite horse.
Off-horse activities include learning the breeds, colors and markings, basic horse anatomy, common illnesses and there treatment, styles of riding, naming parts of the saddle and bridle, ect. Puzzles, games and quizzes are used to enhance the riders‘ comprehension.
* This camp provides information needed for the Boy Scouts “Horsemanship” merit badge and the “Horse Rider” merit badge for the Girl Scouts.

We have partnered with the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast to offer horsemanship merit badge programs. Troops may come out individually to complete the program or as groups. We will host workshops throughout the year and you may request days if available.

Celebrate Families 2010

We had a great time at the Celebrate Families Event held at Gloucester High School on Saturday, March 6. Brownie joined us, saying hello to all the kids. We are excited to kick off the year with some great new programs. Come out and join the fun. Volunteers are always welcome.

North American Riding for the Handicapped Association
Appreciating the power of a horse to change lives

Since 1969, the NARHA has provided Equine Assisted Activity and Therapy (EAAT) programs in the United States and Canada through its network of nearly 800 member centers. Each year, dozens of new centers initiate new programs and more than 42,000 individuals with special needs benefit from activities which include therapeutic riding, hippotherapy, equine facilitated psychotherapy and learning, driving, interactive vaulting and competition.
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, NARHA’s mission is to “change and enrich lives by promoting excellence in equine assisted activities.” To accomplish this mission, NARHA fosters safe, professional, ethical and therapeutic equine activities through education, communication, research and standards. The association ensures its standards are met through an accreditation process for centers and a certification process for instructors.
A section of NARHA, the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association (EFMHA), founded in 1996, provides equine-facilitated psychotherapy (EFP) for people with psychological issues and mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, and autism. EFP is facilitated by a licensed, credentialed mental health professional that works with an appropriately credentialed equine professional, or is dually credentialed as an equine professional.
We are very excited to be apart of such a great program.
